Hi there, faithful Pies and Pints folks. I’m writing this message one day after we last visited our new space at 222 Capitol Street in Charleston. We just took our entire management team there to conduct a walkthrough of the planned renovations. Our hope was to gain a little perspective on the new Pies with some seasoned-but-fresh eyes.
Here’s the verdict: We will not be able to be open this summer without compromising our extremely high standards of service and food quality. We’re moving the grand opening to fall.
Most of you really, really like Pies & Pints in Fayetteville. And we know exactly how we’ve won your business: by assembling a team of highly qualified people in our kitchen and in our dining room, and by serving up the goods. Thanks to you, our customers, business has exploded in the seven years we’ve been in operation.
Most of you also know that Fayetteville thrives on a seasonal economy, which basically ends the day after Bridge Day. With that in mind, we’ve decided to push back the opening of our Charleston location until after Bridge Day (always the third Saturday in October). That way, we can use our Fayetteville team to help with all the ins and outs of opening of the Charleston restaurant.
And that just makes sense. We want to bring you the best we can. And they’re in Fayetteville right now. They will be until the fall.
Charleston, listen- we love you. Things are moving along pretty much as planned. Renovations are in progress, licenses are in place, staffing is in progress and backing is plentiful. We’ll just be a little later in opening, to ensure our high standards are there at our new location on day one. We are definitely coming.
Something to keep in mind, too, is that we’re new to this. We’ve never opened a second location. Our goal isn’t just to sell pizza and beer; We want to be a pillar of what we see as that rebirth and renaissance of downtown Charleston (and also sell a lot of pizza and beer). Just take a look at our neighbors. We’re sharing the block with Taylor Books and Ellen’s Ice Cream, two businesses who’ve helped build the downtown we’re becoming a part of. If we want to be up to the task, we better make sure we do it right.
Sincerely folks, we only want to provide you with impeccable service, handcrafted pizza, and premium beer. So we’re going to take some extra time, fine tune our kitchen, polish our silverware, and aim for a late October early November opening. Thanks, and we’ll see you in the glorious West Virginia fall.
P.S. We’re working on something interesting to make up for the delay. Something very… Pies-And-Pints-ish. Details to come, everybody.

So glad you are coming to Charleston, but could you not have found a safer location, maybe South Ridge area. There would have been more parking and easier access.
I love Pies & Pints in Fayetteville. We came up from the Kenna, Wv area for Father’s Day.It poured the rain while there. We were out on the patio and enjoyed it so much!
See ya again soon in Fayetteville
ps…Charleston is just not going to have the same atmosphere
Val
Very glad you are coming to Charleston and I disagreed with Vals comment. Capitol St. is the the perfect location and I think you’re in the perfect building and will be very successful there.
I wish you were opening as soon as possible but I understand what you’re trying to do. Can’t wait to have a Pie & a Pint on Capitol street. See you there.
I work very close to your new location and cannot wait for it to open. The area needs some new restaurants that serve a reasonable and yummy lunch. Can’t wait.
By the way, I think the location is as safe as any. Love Capitol Street!
Ditto Val. I’m not parking my bike downtown on the street.
Cannot Disagree with 1st comment by Val more. Downtown Charleston is were you belong and it is totally safe. My wife & I go downtown with our 2 dogs at least twice a week. We love Capital Roasters, Taylors, Ellens, Vandalia Grill, Blossom Diner and the Peanut Shop. The best in Charleston.
Southridge? Are you kidding me? They are a WV staple opening a second location, not a Chili’s or Olive Garden opening there 5,000th location. You guys are local and Charleston is local. Southridge has not charm or character, its the “same” in every state you travel….no life, no character.
Amie & I will dine often and many of our friends as well!
Southridge? Val, you are missing out in life going to these “cookie cutter” box stores.
Downtown Charleston has more character and life then any city I have traveled too. And it will have its renaissance when people start keeping the money they spend in WV in WV.
You need to understand Val that when a new store opens (local owners) they spend money on advertising, legal signage, equipment etc LOCALLY. But when your “Chili’s” gets ready to open, all that money is spent outside of the state.
Support your city and it will grow, ignore it and the entire state will be southridge. Is that what you want?
Great things are worth waiting for! Take your time, we’ll be here waiting.
Had to follow up on my hubby’s comment about Pies and Pints being downtown. REALLY excited about another cool business opening in Charleston…and DOWNTOWN Charleston.
I’m glad the southridge comment is getting some attention. Southridge is what hurt downtown Charleston and it makes me very sad. I have great memories of going downtown with my mom shopping at Stone & Thomas, The Diamond, The Vogue, Lances and so many other stores. It was a ‘real’ city. Lots of folks walking around and enjoying our city…not our silly southridge. Downtown Charleston used to be so vibrant. I can only hope it will be that way again someday, but it will take folks LEARNING about box stores. Learning…not just accepting. There needs to be more education about them and how they’re literally hurting America and it’s small business owners. Why do you think so many jobs are outsourced and why so many folks are laid off? The biggest offender being in southridge and all across this nation with their superstores.
Downtown is safe, it’s beautiful…although utterly under appreciated and pushed to the side…due to box stores. It has potential … let’s hope those that don’t understand the impact of box stores will take the time to learn.
Bring on the pies & pints =)
I’m with so many others on the Southridge comment. I dread any time I have to fight the traffic any further than Trace Fork. I live close to downtown and my guy and I love going in town and walking around. Pies and Pints is going to be an amazing addition to the city of Charleston and they couldn’t have picked a better location! Sorry Val, you are wrong.
Thank you so much for choosing one of the coolest places in downtown Charleston to open your second location. Anyone would be a fool to think Southridge would be a good spot for this restaurant. The good news is, I doubt P&P ever even considered any other place than downtown, except for maybe the East End, which would have been just as great. Don’t believe the hype, you are just as safe downtown than anywhere else.
I’ve never been to Pies and Pints in Fayetteville but I just checked out your menu and it looks great! I work downtown and it will be wonderful to have another place for lunch and it is a perfect spot on Capital Street. I always dread going out to Southridge and rarely do it. You will get alot of lunchtime traffic, just hope it’s not TOO busy that we can’t get in and enjoy the pies! Welcome to Charleston and take your time!
Southridge? Seriously? wow.
We live in the East End and are very glad to see a welcome addition to Capitol St. Pies & Pints will compliment Ellen’s & Taylor’s nicely!
We’ll patiently await your arrival!
Love that you are coming into the “Charleston” area. But also agree with Val on the lack of parking in Charleston, the recent attacks on people, even a warning from the local police to avoid downtown. Also, Southridge did not close down Charleston, it started with the mall. There is nothing to do in Charleston, and when there is, such as Festivall, the car show, etc, the boulevard is closed, the streets are usually closed, and you do not have easy access to anything. Maybe Danny Jones needs to go to some other cities on the same scale or even smaller than Charleston to see how a city can be prosperous, safe, and enjoyable to visit. While Taylor Books, Ellens Ice Cream and nice places, that is about it for downtown Charleston. Pies and Pints while we always enjoy coming to Fayetteville, I really wished you had looked into maybe even Kanawha City. But, will continue to visit, but would rather drive to Fayetteville than 10 minutes to downtown Charleston. Good Luck
The Gauchers are VERY excited about your pending arrival! In the meantime, we are coming over to Fayetteville this summer because we cannot wait until fall to get down with your pies and beer! See you soon…..and thanks for the update. And I agree that there is a cultural issue here connected to what you do, and the best place for P and P is Capitol Street. We will be there, early and often, in the fall.
Ruth,
The Charleston Police never stated to avoid downtown. This is a complete lie. Yes, there were attacks from a local gang of (3) individuals, but this has been taken care of.
Every city you visit will have this off & on not matter where you travel. What about the police patrols in Southridge for vehicle break-ins? This is the nature of the beast no matter where you live.
Downtown has plenty of parking and anyone that complains just does not want to walk a block or two. Charleston has a mindset that if they are not able to park “right in front” of there destination that they will go somewhere else. WV needs to walk a few blocks, we could use the exercise
And as for the Blvd. It has been closed for months now and there has been no traffic problems. Many who frequent downtown are wanting it to stay closed. What a wonderful addition it would be to the levee to have a walking area for downtown business and leisure 12 months a year.
And the reason nothing is open downtown is because a business needs traffic. Again, build it and they will come.
Hats off Pies & Pints. You will see that the positives will surely out weigh the negatives.
Well said, Michelle, Bob, Amie and all the others regarding the location on Capitol St. I can’t wait. I love Pies n Pints! The black bean and cuban pork pies are wonderful! I can’t wait to try the others.
Downtown Charleston could not be safer, and in my opinon, has a good parking situation. Sometimes, you have to walk a block or two – but in such a quaint and pleasant little town as Charleston, who could possibly complain about that? Southridge? Malls? No thank you. Way to go, Pies, in your choice of a totally awesome and happening local spot to open up in. If it keeps away a few mall rats and big box shoppers, then all the more pizza for us to enjoy! We are impatiently awaiting your arrival…
Southridge would be a huge mistake. It is impossible to compete with the “I only eat it if it advertises on my TV” crowd that fills the olive garden parking lot day after day. Downtown is the perfect place for pies and pints. You are across the street from a parking lot and a garage, so I’m not sure I understand the parking comments. As for safety, the only thing in danger with pies and pints coming to town is my waistline.
